Doi Suthep The most famous and important temple in Chiang Mai. Known as Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, this temple is situated on Suthep Mountain, which is located west of the old city. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep at 1,000 meters (3,250 ft) it occupies an extraordinary site with a cool refreshing climate, expansive views over the city, picturesque tree-lined mountains, waterfalls, and tropical flowers. Climb the 300 stairs, each side flanked by a naga (mythical serpent) or ride in a tram to reach the temple. Wat Phra That Doi Suthep has several beautifully decorated buildings and a “Lanna” style chedi covered with engraved gild plates flanked by four ornamental umbrellas. This is it, folks. If you don’t visit Doi Suthep temple, you ain’t been to Chiang Mai. So, grab your credit card and sign on the dotted line.
